Life Fifty Years Ago
Sometimes you just have to pause. Think about how much time has passed.by in your life.
Last night my friend hosted about eight of us who worked at Evelyn’s. One of us is going to turn 80 next year. She brought some of the t-shirts and aprons we were given over the years. I was there from about 1975-1985. We would always say we loved working there. And, the main reason we loved it was the people we worked with. But, when I woke up this morning all I could think of it was 40 years ago I left there. The more I thought of it, I realized it was fifty years since I started there.
Since I write a lot about time, and how to enrich life with time well spent. I couldn’t miss the opportunity to talk about my wooden name tag above. There are not to many companies, stores or restaurants who give you name tags anymore. And, this name tag was so special. Each one was hand carved. A lot of people worked here. And, in those days there was not too much turnover. But, I have to say giving an employee a name tag is very important. It makes the employee feel seen. I wear a name tag in my job now catering. And, I am so surprised how many guests thank me by name. It means a lot.
In the beginning the restaurant closed on Mondays. After a few years it was opened every day of the week. So, something changed in the eighties. Money became more important, and jobs expected more out of the worker in their time. You could not keep a job, like this. Unless you worked every weekend. I give myself credit for keeping jobs like this. But, now wonder if it really was worth it. Not much was taken out for my social security. But, obviously for the friendships formed it was totally worth it.
P.S I just had to soak in the pictures of the flume ride in the picture on the right. Great Adventure had opened at the perfect time. My friends started to drive. My best friend is sitting in the back. She has her shoulders back with her head held high and a huge smile. (I am in the front). I lost her this year to brain cancer. And, it truly makes me smile to see this fun and happy moment in time. We really enjoyed every bump in life. Just like a flume ride, it has ups and downs. And, it ends quickly. So it is important to make the most of every day as you get older. My friend in the last years loved to sit in her screened in porch. And, just look out into her backyard. It can be as simple as that to enjoy your days.
My post this week was supposed to be about taking a bad habit and doing a 21 day challenge to break the habit. Here is the video:
But, last night left me so distracted in a good way. I am really having trouble concentrating and focusing on writing a cohesive post. So, the you tube video took some time and explains it all. It’s about five minutes long.
Journal prompt for this week is a 21 day challenge book to kick a habit. Or take some time to look back at a job and journal about it.
